Steve Weiss Music Newsletter - Hand Picked Educational Cymbals

Hand Selected Sabian Cymbals Now Available For Sale
In May 2005, a member of our sales staff, Mike Sikora, had the opportunity to tour the manufacturing facilities of Sabian Canada, located in New Brunswick. Mike met with several members of Sabian's production and marketing staff. As with any face to face experience, one truly benefits from spending time with both the company line workers as well as the executives. Mike witnessed first-hand the employees' dedication and wealth of knowledge as well as many of the other intangibles that comprise Sabian's personality.

This tour allowed Mike to view how Sabian's manufacturing process varies from that of its competition. In fact, contrasts were observed in almost every facet of the manufacturing process. While some of these differences result in minimal sonic contrasts, many of them yield a tremendous difference. Insights such as this are valuable when talking about cymbals to our customers. In addition, Mike observed several new products in the developmental stages at Sabian.

Steve Weiss Music, Inc.'s partnerships with preferred vendors, such as Sabian, create unique relationships as well as special benefits that can be shared among the partners and especially with you, the valued customers.

Please be sure to check out our list of Special Hand Selected Educational Cymbals that Mike brought back from the Sabian vault. These are truly hand selected from the production line and matched with the years of experience that Mike brings to the table.....or cymbal as it were! We were also able to bring back an exclusive 6.5" Unfinished Hand Hammered Triangle, which we are offering in a very special package deal on our website.

Please be sure to check out the other recent improvements to our website. They include the addition of Drumheads, Concert Instrument Accessories, Stick & Mallet Pre-Packs, Marching Accessories, and much more!

Show Solutions "Shake well before use"...by M. Sikora
One of trickiest situations a drummer/percussionists can find themselves in is that of a pit orchestra for a Broadway style show. Tricky because, among other reasons, he or she is often faced with a part that leaves little or no time to switch to a "proper" mallet. More...

Strata Heads by Evans...Information collected by J. Nicholson
For those of you who have been "chomping at the bit" for Evans to release a "calf-like" series of concert heads, chomp no longer! Evans has introduced their Strata line of concert drumheads. The line includes a diverse array of concert snare tom, bass and timpani heads that have a more traditional sound and appearance, but with the manufacturing consistency that discerning percussionists have come to expect from Evans. WORLD BEAT CERAMIC DOUMBEK REVIEW…by Jim O'Connor
The first thing that strikes you (ahem) about the World Beat Doumbek, is its rustic terra cotta look. They're actually made with volcanic ash from Mt. Pinatuba, and feature three "tribal designs", pre-tuned goatskin heads, with woven rattan reinforcement to additionally secure the head, and to protect the bottom of the drum. More...

E-TIP STICKS FROM REGAL-TIP REVIEW...by Mike Sikora, Product Specialist
A recent and notable addition to our product offering is the new E Tip Sticks from Regal Tip. E Tips (named due to their on profile resemblance to the letter E) are an innovative approach to the now familiar nylon tip stick. The nylon tip stick itself a revolution in it's day, was the development of Regal Tips founder Joe Calato and designed to solve the sonic and durability problems that drummers would encounter as a result of quick wearing wooden tip sticks. Well Joe's done it again! Here he's used the same durable material and time test manufacturing
techniques but by reshaping the tip and created a stick and tip that not only solves the durability problem but offers much more to the player.More...

CIVIL WAR DRUMMING...by J. Charles Nicholson, esq.
Imagine being 12 years old and enlisting in the army. That's just what
thousands of young boys did between the years of 1861-1865 during the American Civil War. They enlisted as musicians, drummers and fifers. Why would someone so young leave the comforts of home to take up an instrument and join the swelling war? Some thought joining the army would be a great adventure, an opportunity to see places they would otherwise never have been able to see.
Others answered the call to fight for their country, their land, and their beliefs. Musicians, at $21 per month, were also paid more than the normal rifleman! Whatever the cause, Union or Confederate, being a Civil War musician was not as easy as one might believe.More...
